Wildwood Lilies by Julie Riker

8x10
plein air oil
I decided to post this work after seeing Cecelia's lovely lily pad painting. Although this was painted at a different lake and on a different day, I think the paintings themselves are quite similar. This was painted on a bright sunny day and the leaves seemed to glow with the light passing through them. This painting is currently at Gallerie 13 in Mechanicsburg.

ITALIAN LAKE LILY PADS By Cecelia Lyden

Such a big lake, so I decided to paint an up close, small section of it.

The flowers were hard to distinquish at first, but as the sun warmed up, the petals opened up and became more visible.

SUNNY FIELD by Julie Riker

I love sunflowers! Painting a field of them for the better part of a day was such fun.

I am very happy to be a part of this group and blog. I love plein air painting! I have always loved nature and the outdoors, and to be able to combine that with my love of art is so fulfilling for me. What is even better is that I have made many new painting friends over the past year through paint-outs. It is wonderful to be able to share ideas and experiences with other artists.

Rockville Bridge by Tatiana Myers.

View on Rockville Bridge, 9 x 12"

La Carte, Mixed soft pastels and pastel pencils.

This is a first painting I did with the group sometime last October.
Susquehanna river at Fort Hunter area with view at famous Rockville Bridge.
I finished this painting surprisingly quickly . We all had very good time and I'm looking forward to upcoming fall, when I'll be able to go out and paint with everybody more often.

Wildwood Lake, Lyn O'Neal

Oil on linen panel
9 x 12 inches

We met up at Wildwood Lake in the Spring and I painted this little scene. I liked the horizontals and the blue/orange play. When I got home it seemed to be missing something -- and then I remembered the little egret that was standing there and knew he couldn't be left out of the scene. The photo quality is not great. I'm still figuring out my camera.

THE RIVER AT LIVERPOOL By Cecelia Lyden

This is the portion of the River I painted.

This picturesque stretch of the Susquehanna River can be viewed from Front Street in Liverpool. PA. In this painting, I tried to convey the overcast, somewhat humid weather of that day. It had been an uncomfortably warm summer, but happily on that morning there was a shady tree and a slight breeze to keep me in good humor and determined to finish the painting.

SUNFLOWERS By Cecelia Lyden

I am most happy to be part of the Susquehanna Valley Plein Aire Painters group. Painting en plein aire is new for me. I love the on-site experience which enables me to get a real sense of the atmosphere, the depth and the colors of the subject. In addition, painting and critiquing at the end of each session with other friendly and helpful artists has been both enjoyable and a valuable learning experience.

In this painting I tried to convey the beauty of a perfect summer day, with sun-drenched fields of poppies, a bright blue sky and streaky white clouds. It was a cool and comfortable day--ideal for plein aire painting.

Painting Sunflowers at Ashcombe's Garden Center

Here are some pictures of some of the artists who came out to paint the sunflowers at Ashcombe's in Mechanicsburg, PA. Athough the sunflowers were just past their peak, they still provided plenty of color.

SUNNY DAY
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Sunny Day'
Oil   11 x 14

Members of our plein air group have spent the last two days
painting the sunflower fields of Ashcombe's Garden
Center. In addition to the beautiful sunflowers,
there were butterflies, bees and goldfinches and even a baby
bunny rabbit that squealed when one of our painters
walked a little too close to where he was hiding.

KINGS GAP GARDEN
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Kings Gap Garden'
Oil   9 x 12
45/100

Day 45

This painting was done on sight at the
Kings Gap State Park this past Wednesday.
I had come home from painting, tucked my plein air
equipment away and completely forgot that my painting was
still in my pochade box (it's been a very busy week!)

Kings Gap is such a beautiful place. I can not begin to
describe the joy it is to paint there with butterflies and
dragonflies drifting around the flowers - and that's
just the garden.
