North Meadow at Frederick Church estate - Olana - J. J. Capowski

Frederick Church said of Olana that he had found the perfect place to paint.  While this plein air sketch may not prove that, the sunset over the Hudson this evening was wonderful, and the light was all a painter could ask for.

There's a little bit of a glare on the photo, but I can still see the beauty of this piece - especially the lovely brushwork in those upper clouds!

You are the master of clouds, John (well, maybe second only to JD). So wonderful you have this opportunity to paint in the footsteps of Church.

I grew up on the Hudson -- Tarrytown, NY--facing west--saw those amazing sunsets almost every night--very beautiful painting,
