Sunset Beach pastel by Dianne Lorden

Hello Plein Air painters, here is a pastel I made at a beach on the Gulf of Mexico earlier this month during a wonderful Florida vacation. And boy, it's sure cold here! Brrr!

ALONG THE CONODOGUINET By Cecelia Lyden

Such a beautiful, sunny morning to be painting along the creek. A few of us took advantage of Liz Gallucci's gracious 2 day offer and enjoyed her yard and view of the Conodoguinet. The fall colors started to show up when the sun hit the trees mid-morning.

Plein Air at Gallery 2318

Maple tree study in acrylic by Debra Tritt Kreiger
Painted a nice study of the maple tree in the back courtyard. Just needs a few more lights. Thank goodness the sun was out! I was feeling the cold air coming today! Thank you to all my visitors! It was so nice to visit!

AUTUMN By Cecelia Lyden

An occasionally sunny, but still beautiful fall day in Boiling Springs. People were strolling around the lake and streets, enjoying the autumn weather. I was enjoying their company when they stopped to chat. Love this season.

Gallery Demo on Saturday, October 12.

On October 12 I spent 2 hours painting on a back yard of Gallery
where our Plien Air show was on display. Weather was great,
and I decided to work outside, even this time I painted from photo-reference.

Painting I was working on happened to be an another version of the same scene
I painted before A-La Plein Air and it was one of my 3 works in this group show.

Even my second version was a studio style painting, but all process keeps a spirit of
Plein Air painting tradition, when artists were going on etudes
and pained outdoors to gain experience and collect valuable reference for future studio work.

CANOES AT REST By Cecelia Lyden

Paul Gallo's plein air group travelled to Mt Gretna last Saturday on a sunny morning. By far the best spot for painting was the lake. Fall colors reflecting on the water, canoes, lined up and resting on their support and wonderful deep, rich lights and darks were excellent subject matter.

This painting is currently on exhibit with Resent Works By Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters in Gallery 2318 Market Street, Camp Hill, PA.
Exhibit is open every weekend in October Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
and Sundays 12 noon to 4 p.m.
I will demonstrate my plein air painting techniques with acrylics on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2 to 4 p.m.

We had an ocean breeze so before I started painting I supported by 15" x 40" canvas with bull clips and bungee cords attached to a steel guardrail. I finished this painting on site in about 2 1/2 hours. This painting is all brushwork with a lot of overlapping and drybrush application. I was amazed at all the colors I found in the sand and water. This painting is 1 of 7 I completed at the cape and 4 of them are now showing at Gallery 2318.

Fields of Gold - original acrylic plein air landscape painting of hills of sunflowers by Pennsylvania Contemporary Artist Pat Koscienski

Fields of Gold
8" x 10"
Acrylic on canvas

This painting was done plein air near Messiah College in Pennsylvania.  It had rained hard for several days before, and no matter how long we waited for the sun to draw the heads upward, it was not going to happen.  I went back several weeks later to punch in the dark tree & underbrush on the right;  the sunflowers' heads still were not at their grandest.  However, I still liked the contrast of the dark tree with the yellow, rolling hills.  And, who couldn't love that misty blue mountain in the background.

This painting is one of four of my paintings on exhibit with the SVPAP (Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters) group at Gallery 2318 in Camp Hill, PA.  Exhibit will be open every weekend in October....Saturday, 10 am - 4 pm;  Sunday, noon - 4 pm.

If in the area, please stop in.  There are 21 artists displaying their plein air paintings..

If you have any questions, or wish to purchase, contact PAT.  To see more of my paintings, both representational and abstract, please visit my website and blogspot at:

GARDEN SHED, 11x14, oil, by Sharon Benner

The sun light was focused on the stone garden shed and I painted this in a couple of hours with a pallet knife.
