SUNSET AT FORT HUNTER By Cecelia Lyden

Julie Riker and I went to Fort Hunter, on Friday, a beautiful, mild fall evening to paint a sunset. I have painted sunrises and sunsets before , but always from my photographs. This was my first attempt to paint the sun setting en pleine aire. Boy, what pressure! "Now you see it. Now you Don't"
Dramatic sunrises and sunsets depend on cloud formations. This sky had only one cloud. The sky and the water were serenely smooth and placid. I decided to create my own drama and added some livlier brushstrokes and tints.

So glad you got to do this gorgeous painting! I hope to go up there and try to do a sunset painting, too. Will be back this week so hopefully the weather will still be nice. This is really a beautiful painting. I love it. madeline
