The sun moves, shadows change; there is only a short period of time that an artist has to capture the shifts of light and color when painting outdoors - but it is this very desire to distill the energy and freshness of nature that drives the plein air painter. Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters was formed to bring together artists who share this passion.
I really should paint out my back door more often, I have some wonderful scenery of pastures with horses and goats, stables and barns and some interesting trees. The distant forests with open fields in the foreground need to be painted. I think artists get so familiar with their immediate surroundings that they don't look at these places as possible subjects. I'm going to try and paint these scenes this Winter. See more of my work at www.sharonbenner.com
