FALL FINERY By Cecelia Lyden

oil/stretched canvas

I painted with some friends at Ft. Hunter on Saturday. The weather was brisk, but warm in the sunshine and the color was glorious. It took a while, but the 2016 Fall has finally delivered-beautiful golds, rust, maroons, and deep, rich browns. Per usual, I completed the 'bones" of the painting [ composition, tree arrangement, value placement, some color] on site. The rest of the painting was completed at home.

Great Weekend Painting Graystones Preserve with SVPAP, by Deb Kreiger

The Graystones Preserve is indeed a hidden gem in the Pocono mountains since 1934. Thanks to our member Elizabeth Gallucci for making the arrangements and giving us great tours along with her knowledge and history of the preserve. We  all had fun and picked up a few tips form everyone. What a beautiful place and we hit the perfect weekend. I painted three paintings. All are acrylic on canvas with the first one having a touch of oils. The first painting was our view from our cabin! The second is of Mud Run, which one part of the creek with a lot of rocks.! The last is a very peaceful still pond. The colors were fabulous.

I recently participated in Bethany Beach Plein Air, Delaware.  It was a challenging few days with hurricane like conditions, so finding sheltered painting locations was a priority.

"A Quick Rest" by Susan Benigni Landis

"A Quick Rest"
8x10", oil

Lucky to have an egret pose for a few minutes during a peaceful paint-out on the Conodoguinet Creek last week. Thanks to host, Liz.

Saturday, 6 August 2016

Friday morning a few of us painted at Liz's Gallucci's home on the Conodoguinet Creek. We never saw the sun, but we still were able to capture the serenity and beauty of the setting. We also were treated to the sight of a dozen or more heron, resting and flying by.

OPEN SHED By Cecelia Lyden

For someone who is not a farm girl, it's amazing  how much I love to paint bucolic, picturesque, warm and comforting farm landscapes. This spot is on the Paulus farm, where some of us painted on Saturday. It was my second visit there this summer and I hope to go back again.

Dillsgurg Garden Tour

I painted at the 4th Garden on the Dillsburg Garden Tour. The home I painted at was in Mechanicsburg, Martin Home. We were treated so well and a sandwich lunch was provided. Thank you Frannie! What an awesome garden!

       oil/stretched canvas

Saturday was a perfect day-beautiful weather and a beautiful paint location. A few of us painted for the Dillsburg Garden Club Tour for their ways and means event. I chose a wonderful property in Mechanicsburg . There were "paintings" everywhere I looked--huge interesting trees, pastures, farm buildings, cows, flowers  and a charming house. I liked the look of this tree, with its huge, thick trunk and its fallen branches.

Market Day by Julie Riker

9x12 oil

Painted at Finger Lakes Plein Air for the 2 hour Quick Draw Event, this painting won the People's Choice Award and sold at the event.

Sunday, 22 May 2016

Another gray day, but not raining; so I decided to travel to my neighbor's yard to catch some beautiful azalea color before the wet weather washed it all away. Many of the azaleas had passed their peak, before it was dry enough to set up my easel outdoors. There were still some dogwood blossoms, bleeding hearts and white peonies-enough spring glory to warrant a painting. I set up the composition, laid in the values [very flat with no sunshine to create shadows], colors and large and small shapes and finished the details indoors while it rained outdoors.

Staircase To The 2nd Floor by Julie Riker

12x9 oil
Plein Air Magazine Award
Wayne Plein Air 2016

I was honored to be included among 32 talented artists selected to participate in Wayne Plein Air last week.

We had 5 days to create paintings within 20 miles of Wayne, PA.  It was fun exploring the area, rich with historical buildings, farms, and urban areas...I even ventured into Philadelphia.
All week the weather was gray and a bit drizzly.  I was frustrated with the flat light.  On the last day the sun finally came out and I painted this piece.

I was thrilled that judge T. Allen Lawson chose this painting for the Plein Air Magazine Award.

This and ALL of the paintings from the week are on exhibit at the Wayne Art Center through June 25.

Saturday, 23 April 2016

oil/stretched canvas

A beautiful spring day at Italian Lake was the serene setting for this past Wednesday paintout. The new swans were quite the attraction for children and adults out for a lazy stroll. My original rendering included 2 additional geese, but I was not happy with the composition. I cropped them out of the photo and will cut the canvas to this smaller size.

Paint Snow Hill by Julie Riker

Last week I participated in Paint Snow Hill, held in the charming town of Snow Hill, MD on the Eastern Shore.  It was a great event and fantastic area to paint with endless subject matter.  I found myself drawn to the many forgotten and decaying structures which conjured up feelings of sadness - but also mystery, and spoke to the power of time and nature over things of man.  I was honored to receive Artist's Choice for Best Body of Work as voted by my peers.

"Bluebird in the Woods" by Debra Tritt Kreiger

8"x10" Acrylic/oil on canvas
So happy to find out this painting has found a home. Thank you PCCA  Gallery for the recent sale. I painted this plein air at the boat launch in Middletown. The river at the time was very high so I focused on this beautiful setting and light pattern on the bank of the river which was home to the bluebirds.

Today was the  first sunny mild day that I could paint outdoors. I spent 3 hours at the West Fairview boatlaunch on the Susquehanna. It was very peaceful and pleasant. This pic is a tad darker than the painting.

Log Cabin by Julie Riker

12x9 oil

Beth and I painted last week at Landis Valley Museum in Lancaster.  It is a wonderful place to
paint - a little historic village with all sorts of buildings, gardens, animals, a pond...
I think it would be a great place for an SVPAP outing!
